I was his first date from JWed, and his last!!

Match #: 69&70

I had been using JWed for about a year and a half, and had a couple other decent dates from the website.  I always insisted on checking references before meeting a prospective match.  I also had some OK back and forth e-mailing with some men, and often we were able to tell we weren't a shidduch just from the e-mailing.  Strongly differing Hashkofos, etc.  I had even talked to one guy from Eretz Yisroel thinking one of us would make the trip overseas, but obviously it was not meant to be.
During the course of membership, the JWed webmaster sent out e-mails encouraging us to put our pictures in our profile saying that those with pictures got about 10 times more e-mails!  I was very impressed with how respectfully he suggested it, not giving unsolicited advice, just suggesting.  I followed his advice.
Of course it is my belief that Tefillah is number one when it comes to anything in life, but of course we have to make our Hishtadlus.
Working with this website gave me a way to know I was trying very hard for myself to find my Bashert, and I wasn't completely reliant in getting calls from outside people.  I know many people who complain that shadchanim don't call them enough, but I think it is extremely important for each of us to work for ourselves as well.  "im ain ani li, mi li".
I would unabashedly announce my name and age at get Îtogethersâ and ask people to PLEASE keep me in mind if they know of any eligible bachelors.
I was not at all dependent on my shidduch coming about through a website, I was only using it as one of my many resources.  However it did seem to be the most productive, because I would get to "shmooze" with all kinds of people on-line, and not just rely on a third party to describe someone to me.
I believe we know ourselves better than other people, and it's possible if someone else had described Yonatan to me, I would not have thought it a Shidduch.  But seeing his sincerety in his profile and e-mails, I got a hopeful vibe.
I really wish to give hope to other singles out there!  I am 31, and my last few years of being single were extremely painful.  I know the secular world considers 31 young, but I grew up FFB, and most of my friends were married by age 24.  So I really did experience a lot of pain and doubts before finding My JWed Match .
Just this past Pesach, nothing was going on as far as shidduchim.  It was probably one of the hardest Yomim Tovim I had in a long time.  The week after Pesach I got an e-mail from Yonatan and we agreed to talk Saturday night.  He drove the two hours for our date on Sunday, and the rest is history.  We saw each other every Sunday for the next ten weeks and also talked on the phone some.  I do want to say, it was crucial for me to have someone to talk about the dates to.  For me this was a close, older wiser friend, who has had some experience in shidduchim.  At one point she even suggested we don't talk on the phone so much, because she saw we would keep having misunderstandings on the phone, whereas on the dates, we really clicked with each other.
Knowing, that her only goal was to get me under the Chuppah and not ruin "a beautiful thing" as she put it, I heeded her advice.  The reason I express this, is because often older singles (especially as I did) have a hard time with others telling us how to go about our dating.  But I have learned from this experience, that no matter how many dates I've been on, sometimes I need the guidance of someone who's helped others through this very same journey.
Anyway after about 2 1/2 months, we became engaged, and got married 7 weeks later!
I am feeling overwhelming gratitude to H-shem as is Yonatan. Yonatan had only been using JWed for a very short time ö I think less than a month!  He said he was impressed with the caliber of people using JWed, because whereas on other sites, he would often send e-mails without getting any sort of response, here he would actually get very courteous responses even if the woman was saying "no" to further contact.  I was his first date from JWed, and last one of course!
