Usually not. But every once in a while dreams do come true. Not only ordinary dreams but the type one dares not envision because they are beyond the pale of personal believability.
This is the story of one such dream….
This is the story of Yehudis and Yisroel. It begins with Judy from Long Beach, Ca. and Ivan from Newark, N.J, two children of the sixties. They had both been searching for G-d as teenagers and their quest brought them independently to Shlomo Carlebach’s House of Love and Prayer in San Francisco. The Haight Ashbury was in full swing. Young people looking to be free. Flower children challenging convention. Spiritual seekers searching for a deeper meaning to life. At The House of Love and Prayer we experienced all this beauty.
Judy and Ivan arrived independently at The House in 1970. Both became commune leaders and fast friends. At the end of the year they went their separate ways, Judy to Chabad, with a journey that took her to Crown Heights, eighteen years in Tzefat, Boro Park and Los Angeles. Ivan went to Denver, then Back to San Francisco, Lancaster, Pa, Syracuse and two decades in New York followed by a recent relocation to Key West where he is the community rabbi. Both adapted their Hebrew names, married, raised families, divorced and began their searches once again for meaning in their lives. Both understood that their failed marriages produced wonderful children (a total of fifteen). Both understood that their experience within the frum world left them scarred and unfulfilled.
